Gavin GoughThis week’s images pay tribute to the women of Kolkata. I’ve worked with various NGOs supporting residents of the city’s sprawling slums. Despite challenging conditions, there’s generosity, collaboration, laughter and dedication.⠀

Wherever there’s work to be done, you’ll find women. Lifting, carrying, teaching, cleaning, mending, collaborating, and almost invariably, laughing.⠀
⠀
The only water supply to Tangra Slum is a bowser that arrives each morning. Women fill heavy containers and carry them back to their homes, providing for their families’ needs until the following day.⠀
